TraceRide — the digital vehicle logbook for maintenance, costs, and history.

Cloud-based vehicle logbook as a web app, PWA, and Android app: document maintenance, repairs, refuelling, costs, and documents completely — and share them selectively.

TraceRide is a vehicle logbook I founded and build. It documents a vehicle’s entire lifecycle – maintenance, repairs, refuelling, trips, mileage, costs, photos, and receipts – in the cloud, and therefore on every device. Owners see at a glance what is due next and can share the history selectively, for example as a public vehicle page when selling.

My contribution

I am responsible for TraceRide from product idea to delivery: product design, domain model, and architecture, plus implementation as lead developer – from the backend and web app to the Android release on Google Play and the billing model.

Architecture approach

One Angular codebase ships as a web app, as an installable PWA, and, through a Trusted Web Activity, as an Android app. The backend consists of Azure Functions in C#; business data lives in Azure Cosmos DB, photos and receipts in Azure Blob Storage, and sign-in runs through Azure AD B2C.

The vehicle is the central domain object: events, documents, costs, trips, and maintenance status make up its history. The maintenance module defines tasks in a catalogue by system and component and schedules them by interval or trigger; the health status is derived from that. Older records are migrated automatically to the current maintenance model. Private, shared, and public are deliberately separate visibility concepts.

Architecture focus

  • Structured vehicle history for cars, motorcycles, trucks, bikes, and boats
  • Maintenance module with task catalogue, intervals, and health status
  • Multiple maintenance tasks per service visit, including invoice and costs
  • GPS trips with map view and offline buffering of positions
  • Photos and PDF receipts per vehicle and event, OCR for odometer and fuel receipts
  • Private, shared, or public – clearly separated visibility models
  • Public vehicle page for selling a vehicle
  • Multilingual (German, English, French) and in sync across all devices
  • Subscription model with Stripe and server-enforced plan limits
